Hip Conditions We Specialize in Treating
-
This is an injury that involves a tear of any of the three hamstring muscles. There are 3 grades of hamstring strains, with Grade 1 being the lowest, and Grade 3 being the highest degree of tearing. These injuries are most commonly seen in soccer, basketball and baseball players. They are the result of hamstrings that can’t control deceleration of the leg. These injuries can usually be treated conservatively with physical therapy. Injury prevention is also key in hamstring strain rehab, as these injuries linger and often reoccur unless they are properly treated.
-
This is an overuse injury that is most commonly seen in runners, especially when runners suddenly begin to increase speedwork and or hill work into their training program. The pain is located just underneath the sitting bone of the pelvis. The tendon becomes less capable of tolerating impact and you may experience pain at the beginning and after you play your sport. Notably, you will also tend to experience pain the next morning if you’ve done too much. These injuries can be treated conservatively with physical therapy.

This injury is most common in soccer and hockey players, but can occur in other sports. It involves a tear of any of the adductor muscles on the inside of the thigh. There are 3 Grades of adductor strains, with Grade 1 being the lowest and Grade 3 being the highest degree of tearing. Adductor strains tend to recur, so proper management of the condition is key. This injury is typically treated conservatively with physical therapy.
-
This is a condition that involves a pinching-like sensation in the front of the hip. It is typically seen in runners, weight lifting, and sports that require prolonged deep squatting. Symptoms are worst in the front of the hip and sometimes in the groin area. The pain is felt most when sitting in a low chair and suddenly getting up, deep squatting, and hinging patterns. This condition is commonly treated conservatively with physical therapy.
-
This is an injury that involves the labrum of the hip. Symptoms are similar to those found in FAI (pain when the knee is brought up towards the chest, prolonged sitting, hinging patterns). This injury requires physical therapy for mobility and stability of the hip joint. Although infrequent, our therapist may advise that you consult with an orthopedist for additional interventions such as intra articular injections or surgery.
-
This is an overuse condition that involves the overloading of the gluteal tendons on the outside part of your hip. It is typically seen in runners and those who weight train with improper loading strategies. Pain is usually worse when standing on one leg, walking on uneven surfaces, and going upstairs. Symptoms are often worse in the morning and best as the day progresses. Physical therapy treatment for proper load management is standard practice for this condition.
-
This is a condition located at the lateral (outer) part of the hip. Pain is worse when crossing the affected leg over the unaffected leg, when sleeping on the painful side, and when going up stairs. Symptoms tend to be worse in the morning and get better as the day progresses. This type of pain can be treated conservatively with physical therapy.
