The path to rebuilding strength starts here
-
Blood flow restriction training (BFR) is an arterial occlusion technique used by rehab professionals and strength & conditioning coaches.
-
We use blood flow restriction training to facilitate strength and hypertrophy in clients who are unable to lift heavy weights due to pain, injury, and/or recent surgery.
-
We use Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) with clients who have had ACL reconstruction surgery, meniscus repair surgery, rotator cuff repair surgery, knee pain, Achilles pain, muscle atrophy from an old injury, and more.
-
Yes, there is a lot of evidence that recommends the use of BFR in the first 8-12 weeks post-op to building strength. We believe it’s a great tool to utilize to expedite the healing process.
-
Blood flow restriction partially occludes the arteries, which still allows blood flow into the extremity, but does not allow blood flow out of the extremity. This results in less oxygen delivery to the muscles working during the exercise. That’s a good thing, as it causes more muscle fibers to work. This is great for someone who can’t load their system with heavy weight yet.
-
BFR is safe for the general population that does not have other medical conditions. If you have any cardiac, vascular or lymphatic conditions, BFR may not be recommended. Safety is also dependent on the proper use of BFR. It is advised that you consult with your rehab provider.

"Dr. Paul created a warm and inviting space for me to share my experiences, ask realistic questions about my goals and challenged my way of thinking, which helped me rebuild my confidence and trust in my knee... The Game Plan PT offers a multimodal (cupping, BFR, massage therapy, manipulation) and holistic approach seeing the client as a human and not just their issue."
